PBA has done many Ribbon Cuttings over the years but it was an honor to be there for Jack Brown, Jack’s Auto Sales 50th Anniversary. What a great milestone for this family owned and operated business. Liam Davis,
Community liason for Baltimore City County President Jack Young, Jerry Nicklow, Vice President of the Pasadena Business Association and Dottie Mitchell from the Coast Guard Yard were on hand to present citations. Delegate Nic Kipke (although the business is out of his district) stopped by to congratulate Jack and his family. Pastor Yon from Community Gospel Church lead us in an opening and closing prayer. Below is a brief bio of Jack’s 50 years.

Jack’s Auto Sales was founded in Nov 1965 by Jack Brown as a used car lot with quality cars. This family owned business expanded over the years with the opening of the Browning Automatic Transmission shop in 1980 with son Jeffrey. Growing again over the years and expanding the shop to full service repairs with ASE certified mechanics: daughter Jackie, grandson Jeff Jr and shop manager son, Joey. Jack has sold every type of vehicle imaginable over the years from Volkswagens to Vipers to double decker buses to race boats. This family owned Christian business has prospered over the years by providing exceptional service, fair prices and honest work. Located on Hawkins Point Rd just off beltway exit 1. Our cars are always clean and our shop is ready to serve.

Congratulations to Jack Brown and his family and we wish you many more years in business.

We had a very successful Joint Networking Mixer with the Greater Severna Park & Arnold Chamber of Commerce. There were 70 business members in attendance for a fun evening of great appetizers and a great opportunity to network your business. We want to thank Twain’s Tavern for hosting the mixer. Stop in and visit the new Twain’s Tavern and say PBA sent you. It won’t get you anything but it is good for them to know we are helping promote them.

The PBA’s 5th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony was a great day to honor those present and past who fought to keep us safe. We had Veterans from every war, every branch of the service, and many active military in attendance. It was truly an honor to have them at our ceremony. The Veterans and Active Military stood up, introduced themselves, and told us where and when they served. Each was presented with a pin from their particular branch and a round of applause from the crowd. Mrs. Major’s second grade class at Bodkin Elementary School wrote letters to the veterans and they were so cute and heartfelt. Thank you to Mrs. Majors for teaching her students the meaning of Veterans Day and sharing the letters with us. We hope to have more letters next year so every veteran can have one. I want to thank County Executive Steve Schuh, Delegates Kipke and Simonaire, County Councilman Derek Fink, Chief of Police Tim Altomare, Eastern District Captain Shawn Urbas, and Dana Hendrickson with the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs for attending and contributing to our ceremony. I want to thank the Chesapeake Vocal Ensemble, Navy Honor Guard, Emmanuel Lutheran Church Pastor Bob Stevens, Ft. Meade Chief Petty Officers, Captain Rick Barnes, Ph.D., of the MD Defense Force Band, Boy Scout Troop #773, Anne Arundel County Police and Reserve Officers, Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks, Veteran Charlies Johns, Veteran Vince Kelley of Ft. Graphics, Veteran Mike Wist of Bay Country Rentals, Maher’s Florist, Chief Petty Officers Association of Ft. Meade, MD, PBA President Mike Jacobs and of course Lisa Hart of chairing this event again this year. We couldn’t do it without your support. I had several people come up to me after the ceremony who came because their dad who had past was a veteran and just felt they should be there to honor him. It brought tears to my eyes when talking with some of the veterans who had difficulty walking and standing but would not miss the ceremony. God Bless them and God Bless America.

PBA held their 12th Annual Golf Tournament at Compass Pointe on September 23. The weather was simply perfect for the nearly 60 golfers that came out to support PBA Community Assistance Programs. A huge thanks to our Corporate
Sponsors: Ace Hardware & Hearth, Glory Days Grill, McCully Polyniak Funeral Home, and Sheriff Ron Bateman.

Thank you to our Tee Sign sponsors other than already listed above: Bay Country Rentals, Cityline Business Park and Kurtz’s Beach. Although the turnout was lighter than normal we still had a great time. Thanks to everyone who played golf with us and all of the volunteers, especially Linda Loane from The Bank of Glen Burnie and Lisa Hart from
Arundel Federal Savings Bank that made the day possible.

We want to thank the following businesses for their donations: Esskay Quality Meats, Lauer’s Supermarket & Bakery, BWI Airport, Cheshire Crab, Glory Days Grill, Mutiny Pirate Bar & Island Grill, Arundel Federal Savings Bank and Able Contractors.

The profit from this tournament goes in toward the Community Assistance projects which include: Scholarships, the Veteran’s Day Ceremony, The Tree Lighting Ceremony and A Child’s Christmas so please think about helping us out next year and getting a foursome together. We’re already looking forward to next year’s tournament!

Send your monetary donation payable to PBA but earmarked A Child’s Christmas and Sandi will be happy to assign you a child or family and do the shopping for you.

FOOD: Last year, we didn’t have a lot of food to give to families, so we’d appreciate it if a few businesses would be willing to place a box in their businesses to collect non-perishable food.

TOYS: Businesses may also want to place a collection box for toys or other gifts.

GIFT CARDS AND CASH DONATIONS: If your business wants to decorate a gift tree for those who prefer, we are accepting donations of gift cards or money that can be sent to the PBA office earmarked for A Child’s Christmas.

SINGLE GIFT ITEMS: Lastly, if you’d like to purchase a gift such as a bike, electronic game, or a single gift let Jacqueline or Sandi know and we can select a gift from one of the wish lists.

OTHER IDEAS: Businesses can collect like items such as hats, mittens, gloves, socks, underwear, etc.

Jacqueline can also print a wish list onto paper ornaments if you want to decorate a tree where your employees and/or customers can pick a gift to buy.
