Chesapeake Christian Center celebrated the dedication of their new kitchen recently with a Ribbon Cutting. Pastor Copley says “Our doors are open to people of all backgrounds & cultures, regardless of where they are on their spiritual journey. We are a contemporary, Pentecostal church who loves the family and desires to see each individual grow.”

Pastor Copley and the members of Chesapeake Christian Center are always willing to give a hand when the PBA needs a facility or man power so we thank them and wish them the best. We are looking forward to some great home cooked meals out of their new kitchen.

Thanks to all of the Elected Officials who sent representation and Mike Phennicie, BWI – Thurgood Marshall Airport for presenting his famous Airplane pen.

The 19th Annual Educational Excellence Awards was held on May 11th.  This is a great event that PBA has been sponsoring for many years.  We truly enjoy meeting these dedicated and exceptional teachers. The PBA honored Kelli Johnson, a Fourth Grade Teacher at Riviera Beach Elementary School.  It was fun to sit with her and her family, especially her young son who was so proud of his mom.

Kelli posed for a picture on the stairs at Michael’s with her family and her Riviera Beach School family.  We also had Linda Loane from the Bank of Glen Burnie and the PBA Treasurer, Gina Cook , Avon, and the PBA Secretary, and Brian Conrad, Edward Jones, PBA Board Member to help her celebrate her accomplishments.

We were so happy to welcome another new PBA Business with a Ribbon Cutting.  Noah’s House is a great place to take your children or grandchildren for indoor play.  According to the owners – “this place is for all the parents that are looking to connect with other parents. This is for all the parents who feel trapped and need a loving place to go. This is for all the parents, who want to have fun with their kids without the added stress of too much routine. This is for all the parents who want to know that their kids are in a safe space.”  Khalifah & Andre Carter are the owners and loving parents of Noah.  They started this business so Khalifah, a teacher, could spend her day with Noah.

Thanks to Delegate Nic Kipke and his family, Senator Bryan Simonaire, Patrick Mulford representing Councilman Derek Fink, Lisa Hart from Arundel Federal Savings Bank, Brian Galyan from DCA Imaging Systems and Jim Wisniewski from the Pasadena Voice for coming out and helping us celebrate.

My grandchildren loved playing at Noah’s House and I am sure yours will too.

Our May General Membership Meeting was a great way to find out what happened during the legislative session.  Senator Bryan Simonaire, Delegate Nic Kipke, and Delegate Meagan Simonaire gave us an overview.  Delegate Nic Kipke presented Billy Greer with a citation for his heroic efforts when jumping into the storm water management pond behind Lake Shore Plaza to help Amelia Puderbaugh; she had a medical issue and plunged into the pond.  We are so proud of Billy for his courage.

Thanks to Kurtz’s Beach for a great meeting and what a nice place to have a meeting in the newly renovated space.

When thinking about the Pasadena Business Association and why you might support our member businesses, think about some great reasons to Shop Local!

    Buy Local - Support Pasadena
When you do business with an independent, locally-owned business that is a Member of the Pasadena Business Association, rather than a nationally-owned business, significantly more of your money is used to make purchases from other local businesses and service providers and it helps strengthen the economic base of our local Pasadena community.

    We Support Community Groups
Community groups like schools, sport teams and local charities receive more support from smaller local business owners and the PBA than they do from large businesses.

    Keep our Pasadena Community Unique
Where we shop, where we eat and have fun -- all of it makes our Pasadena community home. Our one-of-a-kind businesses are an integral part of the distinctive character of Pasadena. Pasadena Businesses should do business with other Pasadena Businesses.

    Create more good jobs
Small local businesses are the largest employer nationally, and in our Pasadena community, provide the most jobs to residents. Buy local and keep your paycheck in Pasadena.

    Get Better Service
Local businesses often hire Pasadena residents with a better understanding of the products they are selling and take more time to get to know customers. Taking care of our neighbor.

    Invest in Community
Local businesses are owned by people who live in this community, are less likely to leave, and are more invested in the community’s future.

    Encourage Local Prosperity
It is clear that local entrepreneurs and skilled workers are more likely to invest and settle in communities like Pasadena that preserve their one-of-a-kind businesses and distinctive character.

Dream Vacations, formerly Cruise One, held a Ribbon Cutting on April 23rd at their 313 Crain Highway South in Glen Burnie to celebrate their grand reopening and introduce themselves to the community under the new name. They offered face painting, balloon animals, popcorn, ice cream, island food, and steel drum music, all of which my grandchildren enjoyed immensely.
